Hey guys! This is Dani speaking.
Are you ready for my insightful, mind blowing opinions? Here
they are.
Everyone should
read Don Quixote. What a comical piece of literature! This just goes to show
how much power literature actually has on our minds. If reading a couple of
books can make Don Quixote believe that he was a real knight, then just imagine
all the important messages and lessons we can direct towards all of humanity
through literature! It’s a shame that not more people are fond of reading. Then
again, we can’t blame them since most people in the Philippines don’t even have
the means of buying books such as these.
Let me just get to the point. It’s true that literature is
extremely influential. However, we have to consider that it is capable of
influencing you either positively or negatively. In the case of Don Quixote, I
would have to say that reading all those books had a negative influence on him.
I mean, come on! The poor guy thought he was a knight! Well, folks, that’s bad
for him but good for us! After all, what could be more entertaining than some
crazy guy attacking a windmill?! Let’s face it, the sad truth is, insanity is
entertainment… That is, just as long as it doesn’t cause any harm to anyone real. So I suppose a safer way to phrase
it would be this: Fictional insanity is entertainment.
Another reason I grew interested in Don Quixote was all the
Spanish references! Well, I suppose the only things which were still Spanish in
this version were the names… Still, the fact that it was originally written in
Spanish intrigues me. As you probably know, dear reader, I am very fond of all
things Spanish! Someday, I would love to be able to read the Spanish version of
this! Reading this excerpt has actually motivated me to read the entire book,
which I hope I will actually be able to do once we have enough free time. [What
wishful thinking for a senior!]
Cheers to the great first assignment!
